More Buda and less Pest & Frank has a ball

Fact; there was a public poll to name Hungary's longest bridge; the winner was "Chuck Norris Bridge"-this turned out to be ineligible as the person had to speak Hungarian and had to be dead!
Today we visit the Buda castle up on the hill-very quiet apart from the screaming 200,000 tourists.

We indulge in coffee and cakes at the Ruzwurm cafe,oldest cafe in Budapest
and then tour the hospital in the rock used during WW2 and set up as a bunker during the cold war.

Afterwards we wend our way back to Pest and have a tour of the Budapest opera house-ok but not a patch on Vienna.






In the evening it is off to the Getto Gulas restaurant for a bizarre offal dinner.

The Tour de Budapest

Today we cycle to Szentendre along the Danube-we know this will be a tough ride when we are shown the profile of the ride. Our cycling companions seem somewhat competitive. Anyway we decide to enjoy the day out. Szentendre is a quiet little town and apart from the 70,000 tourists is quite deserted. We lunch on Langos which is a sort of fucked up Hungarian version of pizza-pretty good actually. Then it is back by boat to Budapest and dinner with some of our new found companions.

Coping in Koblenz

What a mammoth task we have ahead of ourselves, trying to recover the many kilos lost while walking along the Rhine. On the average we have lost probably lost about 50% of our lean body mass, which only has been mildly compensated for by a 30% increase in fat body mass. Day 1 was spent mostly in either a horizontal posture or in a seated position at food table. On our second day in Koblenz my suggestion was to visit the German railway museum-mostly attended by the guys with one dedicated train enthusiast of the female variety. Salt of the earth

Having cajoled a taxi driver the previous day to take us to Munich airport ,we are on our way at 8am to meet Claire and Eric. Following the father and daughter and daughter's CP reunion we jump into our rental vehicle-thank God I booked so far ahead, so the whole process only took 2 hours and they still didn't have the car I ordered-Europcar lift your game! Then the road trip to Berchtesgaden to visit the salt mines. In true German fashion we are forced to put on ridiculous fancy dress in order to be humiliated and then it is off for the magical mystery tour involving train rides and giant slippery dips Don't even ask and boat trips across clear lakes. We absorb so much salt that our blood pressure and demeanour have risen by 50%. We take a little trip around Berchtesgaden but don't have time to visit "his" house and then it is on to Salzburg.
