Staying at a Schloss is no great loss

So it turns out that the amenities in German castles have much improved since the time they were built.

One no longer needs to dodge sewerage being dropped onto your head from the parapets. We have a late start and after a traditional German breakfast of pan-fried dog's eyeballs and dumplings we exploar Sant Goar(sic)

and I purchase a coat of many pockets.
We then wander along the banks of old Father Rhine



and make our dinner reservation and then sit on the sunny terrace and observe the passing barges, trains and castles while drinking fine German wine.

The rest of the day is spent in quiet solitude before the onslaught of dinner
No need to fear the wurst

Heiko shows us his collection of strangled cats before preparing a luscious breakfast of toenail stew on toast. We then head into Salzburg to pay our tribute to Julie Andrews and all the little Trapdoors. We dress up for the reenactement-that's me on the far right, Eric is centre stage Frank, Claire,Robyn and Eric Schnitzel overload We are then off to Durrnberg in order to experience the 2.2km bobsled run. Despite my pleas to walk to the top the lazy sods decide to chairlift it. At the top is a schnitzel house and why not? Grostl Then it is off to the bobsled run for our hare raising trip down at breakneck speeds. Unfortunately we are preceded by a group of dopey teenage girls who use the brakes excessively and we are reduced to a snail's pace much to the chagrin of the hoon element in our group. We take the waters and then undo all the good works

This morning we take to the Szechnyi Spa to invigorate our bodies and souls. Getting into the spa requires considerable skills as the process is somewhat arcane not to mention Byzantine. Eventually we manage to enter the public bathing arena which is quite stunning and extremely pleasant.The attendants here must have the best jobs in the world-sitting and  perving at  observing the nubile young ladies in their skimpy swimwear. The jobs go out to tender and whoever pays the company the most gets the gig. We then immerse ourselves in a number of different pools each with their own healing properties. One disease I believe we wont get cured from though is tinea. We have a light lunch at a nearby restaurant. This evening we have our farewell dinner in Budapest at the Onyx restaurant-a very fine dining experience.

We indulge in Rhinoscopy-Braubach to Rhens

Following a traditional Prussian breakfast of marmot earlobes on toast we make our way backwards via train This Fraulein has had too much Apfelstrudel,perhaps yes? and ferry to Boppard. Despite my begging entreaties, the group has voted to take the chairlift up the vertiginous heights of the local mountain. I am forced into this unnatural contraption by the local constabulary and need to be strapped in, in order to prevent me from jumping out. Walking is easier today though I still am hearing rumbles of dissent from the the low lifes I have unfortunately chosen as my companions. Some of our views are better than so-so, and we eventually have lunch beside an ancient Roman sanitary facility (yuk)! Eventually we arrive in Rhens only to be told that the only restaurant in town is closed. So we hop onto the local omnibus and have a most satisfactory meal at the adjacent town, a mere 2 hours away.
