Gmotoring to Gmunden

Today we motor forth to visit the Salzkammergut region.
Heiko serves us a breakfast of the most delicious black pudding
-he seems strangely evasive when I question its origin, though he tells us it is very fresh.
We stop along the way to ride a cable car up Zwolferhorn at St Gilgen for some more mundane views-reminiscent of Cranbourne.

The place is full of Asian tourists taking selfies-thank God I am so tolerant!
We then push on to Gmunden, the birthplace of my Grandmother, with photo stops en route.

The Austrian parking meter system has me flummoxed but somehow I don't get a fine. We have lunch at the Hotel Schwann

and attend the Italian food festival???

Next stop is a visit to Gustav Mahler's composing hut at Attersee-it was here he came to compose in order to get away from the hurly burly of city life. The adjacent hotel give us a key to the hut and seem quite happy for us to wander around.

Final stop is at Mondsee to relive the wedding of Maria to Captain Von Trapp.

We stop off on the way home for more traditional Austrian food.

  1. This photo reminds me that a famous native of Gmunden is Conchita Wurst, of Eurovision.
