A tough 24 hours

We arrive at 2am at Tullamarine and following the usual internal cavity search we lodge ourselves into the lounge area. On board we are showered with gifts to top up our non-dwindling supply of various aromatic body salves, balms and fragrant lotions. We also stock up on "health bars", nuts, toothbrushes, shaving kits and ear wax removers.My on board suitcase is now bulging with all these goodies. Don't believe this is all luxury-at one stage we had to make do with non-vintage champagne-oh the horror!!!!!

With the assistance of the pharmaceutical industry and a wide range of alcoholic beverages we manage some shut eye en route to Dubai.
In Dubai we have our complimentary spa treatment; I opt for the Thai invigorating massage; that which does not kill me makes me strong. We have a pleasant lunch



and then it on board to Munich which includes a shower at 30000 feet.
We arrive exhausted at our hotel and fall into a deep sleep for about 4 hours

Salt of the earth

Having cajoled a taxi driver the previous day to take us to Munich airport ,we are on our way at 8am to meet Claire and Eric. Following the father and daughter and daughter's CP reunion we jump into our rental vehicle-thank God I booked so far ahead, so the whole process only took 2 hours and they still didn't have the car I ordered-Europcar lift your game! Then the road trip to Berchtesgaden to visit the salt mines. In true German fashion we are forced to put on ridiculous fancy dress in order to be humiliated and then it is off for the magical mystery tour involving train rides and giant slippery dips Don't even ask and boat trips across clear lakes. We absorb so much salt that our blood pressure and demeanour have risen by 50%. We take a little trip around Berchtesgaden but don't have time to visit "his" house and then it is on to Salzburg. A good dose of Rhinitis-Rhens to Koblenz

Following a traditional Rhenish breakfast of goats udders served in a bowl of pig water, we leave for the last leg of our Herculean perambulation. I believe my "companions" have let their sanitary standards drop since the start of this walk; we are constantly followed by hordes of insects and buzzards are constantly hovering overhead, waiting to pick off the weaker members of our group. I am forced to give frequent rousing talks of the Anzac spirit to inspire the stragglers.
